New
Years Day Wheeling… sorta.
I was tired of sitting around on New Years
Day, and decided to go wheeling with my son.
Since my rig was down because of an on going axle swap, we used
Zach’s. We headed to a spot on some
private property near the south of
This wouldn’t have been so bad, but we were
on the side of a small hill and we ended up flopping as a result of the blow
out. Fortunately, the only thing damaged
from the roll was the light bar. There was
another wheeler in the area so we flagged him down and had him winch us back on
our tires. It took a while, and it was
tough, because we were pulling up hill
Fortunately the guy had a pretty decent winch and after a few minutes of
pulling, we were back to
rubber side down. You can see how the drive shafts both blew on
the one pic…
Now to survey the damage. We checked the oil and all the fluids and all
seemed to be ok. The battery was
dislodged, and after strapping it down it started right up. We changed out the blown tire, and fixed the
drive shafts, and we were on our way. We
were pretty lucky that we didn’t get any body damage. A little further out, and I would have had a
huge headache.
So we headed back out on the trail, and got
had a great time wheeling, The dude
who helped us out, just kind of took off
after we thanked him. We didn’t see much
of him after that. All in all it was a
great day of wheeling. I definitely
learned my lesson about not wheeling alone.
Zach and I would have had to trek our way back to civilization to get
help had that other guy not been out there wheeling. He had a really nice rig, the suspension is
setup
very similar to Zach’s rig. Coil over with long control arms, and full
width axles.
Personally I think the jeep sits way too
high, but that thing wheeled great. I
think we’ll try to lower the cg a bit to see if we can tackle that same
obstacle again without tipping. Zach did
really good with his driving, considering that all he had wheeled up to this point
are small local spots. All in all it was
a great day of wheeling, and it was nice doing it so close to home…
